Mark Beauchesne has over 30 years of experience fishing New Hampshire’s waters. He is the Outdoor Education Coordinator for New Hampshire Fish and Game. He has been a licensed fishing guide since1995 and is also a licensed boat captain. He has been fortunate to have clients from all over the United States and Japan. Despite his success as an angler Mark’s preference is to share his skills and techniques with friends and guide clients. Through this experience he has become highly accomplished in teaching the art of fishing. In his opinion, "a guide should teach the client about the fishery and help improve their skills. This goes above and beyond just bringing someone to a pond and putting them onto fish." |
With a strong base of repeat clients, Mark’s enjoys seeing their skills improve over the years. He has a strong background in the state’s natural history and puts this to use while guiding. While on one of his guided trips customers not only experience some great fishing excitement, but they also learn about the state’s natural beauty. Besides the great fishing you will have, chances are also good that you may encounter an eagle or moose during the trip. Mark can be reached at nhbassguide@hotmail.com.

John Asseng is a Park Ranger with the US Army Corps of Engineers and a New Hampshire Licensed Guide. He began his love for fishing at a young age after his neighbor introduced him to hunt for nightcrawlers for bait to catch brookies. As an early teen the same family friend handed him his first fly rod. "I remember Kay handing me an old 3 piece Montague bamboo rod that had a missing guide or two. I learned real quick how to whip new guides and started fly-casting in my back yard. After becoming proficient with the wood stick and level line, I set off to catch fish. I think it took several trips before I actually landed a trout, but once it all came together, I never looked back." While in college he saved money by wrapping his own rods, and for a short time he even worked for Thomas and Thomas rod makers. |
He is an officer with the New Hampshire Guide’s Association and is actively involved with several conservation advisory groups in the state. John, his wife Karin, and son Nate reside on a small farm in Marlow.

Andy Schafermeyer is the fisheries biologist for New Hampshire Fish and Game Department’s Region 1 in Lancaster. Born and raised in Missouri he learned how to fish by throwing anything rotten in front of big catfish. After graduating from the University of New Hampshire with a B.S. in Wildlife Biology in 1994 he accepted employment with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department. |
His position quickly changed from a seasonal hatchery technician to a full-time fish culturist where he remained employed for four years. Since 2000, Andy has been a fisheries biologist covering northern New Hampshire. Although he loves fly-casting for trout and salmon, he spends a lot of time chasing smallmouth bass around Northern New Hampshire.
